interested in tracing your birth family?
Search for OriginsIf you are interested in tracing your birth family, you need to be:
An adopted person over the age of 18
An adoptive parent of an adopted child who has reached the age of 18
The biological parent or previous adoptive parent of an adopted child who has reached the age of 18, but only if the adoptive parent and the adopted child give their consent in writing
It’s best to contact the adoption agency or social worker who handled the adoption directly. You could also contact the Registrar of Adoptions at the Department of Social Development in Pretoria.
It’s important to know that a search is not always successful, and all parties will need to agree to the search.
